Holiday Season Ahead!!

First of all i would like to Wish everyone a Happy and Safe Holiday Season!!!! Secondly,i will tell you that what you are about to read is a story of the consequences of Drinking and Driving, not a request for pity or feeling sorry, just a story to think about while your attending those Office Parties and Friend and Family get togethers.
Two years ago on Thanksgiving Day i was at my sisters house for Dinner and a "Couple" drinks, after eating and watching football i decided to head for home,a 15 minute drive,6 hours later i arrived home with my Dad who had to pick me up at the police station after spending the last few hours being cut out of my car, attended by the E.M.S at the scene, going to the hospital and having my blood taken for tests,in handcuffs the whole time.Luckily i was the only one affected in the accident, except for the power pole that has a chunk missing now.
Two weeks later i received a request, more of a demand,to surrender my drivers liscense to the state and my official charges of Driving under the influence of alcohol. After hiring a lawyer and pre-trial proceedings i learned of my impending doom, although they happened 10 and 12 years ago they found two other similar charges in another state, not being able to charge me for them as "Offenses" they were used as "Occurrences" which put me in the lowest section of the highest tier of sentencing,2 to 5 years in State Prison.
Lucky for me,if you can call it that,i had a long tenure at my present job and they gave me 1 year in county jail and work release, whereas they took up to 70% of my check for fines and rent, yes, they charged me rent, close to a thousand a month for 8 months while i was there over last years Holiday Season, the remaining 4 months was on house arrest and i don't get off parole/probation until 2012.
Over 10,000 dollars later i still don't have my liscense and have to depend on family and friends to get around. There are alot of other things involved with it also but i won't get into those now. Though it was rough for me financially i was able to not lose everything as some in the same situation have, some lost homes and families as well as jobs if not their lives,so please,be careful this Holiday Season and don't end up like me.
If you read this far thank you and pass this on to others,i'm not preaching,i just learned alot over the last two years and i hope that writing this will make people think before they drink and get behind the wheel.I was lucky i didn't hurt someone and i hope this will help others stay safe.
Just one other thing, while i was in jail there was a man who was there awaiting to go "Up-State" for killing someone while driving drunk, that someone was his .
Thanks for reading and again...."Have a Safe and Happy Holiday Season!!!
