My first cock ring

I have just purchased a metal cock ring that is 1 1/2 in diameter. My question is how in the world do you put it on and then what happens if it is to small, how do you get it off?  you probably don't need this info anymore but I'l say it anyway I have the same issue, my nuts are too sensitive for stuff like this but I tend to put my balls in first then just push my cock in.

It should be as soft as possible and a little lube helps. I've tried putting my cock in first but trying to get one nut in there at a time with that cock is no easy feat. So I switched.
