| The Joy of Entering Dumbo |
Jul 4, 2008 6:02 pm 1369 Views | Recently, while at one of my usual West Village cafes, I met a boy from Omaha Nebraska. He's 19 and moved here last year to attend acting school. This is in itself not unusual as everyone knows there are 8 million stories in the Naked City. And I feel I've already had my ration of acting school attendees since living in Manhattan.
Well I should say, I've had my ration of those who say they go to acting school who actually work at Macy's or some other place. Not that there's anything wrong with working at Macy's. Just why go through the trouble of making up a story of becoming a future unemployed actor? lol
The main reason these cafes are so popular is because they don't have liquor license and therefore allow customers in who are under the legal drinking age. That means people like ME. At least for the next seven months.
The number one mission when entering, sitting, ordering, going to the bathroom and leaving these places, is to look and act cool. This can cause much frustration as people tend to act snobby under these circumstances. But it can also be the source or much hilarity as each individual has his own version of what cool is.
I often hear from people who live out of town that gay locales can be seem boring. They describe places that always seem to have the same faces in them whenever one goes there. Not so here.
While many places here do have a small cadre of "regulars", most of the people you see here are fresh faces with a majority being tourists and people who live outside of town and are checking out the situation.
With the dollar being in the cellar, it is understandable that many Europeans visit the Big Apple. Some of them are even coming on weekend shopping sprees. It's fun to have them here because there's lots of cuties among them. But it's also sweet to see the tables turned while watching them act not as continental sophisticates, but as lost rubes trying to "fake it" in Gotham. Many return home with fashions or music that haven't reached the shelves there.
Now that I have given you a slight taste of what it's like in these cafes, let me return to what happened with this 19 y/o aspiring actor.
Just as I was talking with my buds, a gorgeous boy plops into the seat next to me at our table and grabs the menu. This is not that unusual here because as I said, we have lots of Europeans and that's normal for them. But this guy spoke perfect American English.
Then I felt weird cause I thought to myself, 'uh oh, you totally forgot who this guy is that you met already'. Luckily that wasn't the case. I quickly got into a conversation with him and I found him not overbearing or cocky. He just had a no nonsense pick-up method. And the bud next to me so much as told me that too as he tapped his knee against mine as if to say, you dirty bastard. lol
We talked for a while but he quickly finished his coffee and paid. We exchanged numbers and agreed to meet at the same place the next night.
That was supposed to be last night and I waited in that cafe for 40 minutes before he called giving me this bullshit story of his rents surprise visit to NYC for the 4th. He said he was sorry and would call again so we could meet. Yea right.
I mentioned yesterday in the chat room here that I might be getting laid last night. Big mistake. lol
Early this afternoon I was driving into Brooklyn going to a famous place called Junior's which has the world's best cheese cake. My mom wanted one for the little dinner party she's having for a few friends tonight. While I was coming off the Manhattan Bridge on the Brooklyn side, I got this call. It was the Nebraska boy and he wanted to know if I had time to meet.
I asked him where he lived and he told me in Dumbo. Dumbo i s an acronym for District under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass and I was just coming off that very bridge. He quickly vectored me to a nearby corner where he was standing, waiting. He asked me if I wanted to see his place and I don't have to tell you how I answered.
He took me up to his place which is gorgeous and has a spectacular view of the East River and Manhattan skyline. But before I could get a good look at it he was kissing me. And then my clothes were thrown on the floor. Along with his.
I'm not gonna get into too much detail here because unlike JD9600, porn is not my srongpoint. LOL I will say that it was some of the most earth-shattering sex I've had in a long time. WHEW. And I plan on meeting this kid again and will keep you guys posted.
It turns out his parents did in fact surprise him with a visit. I met them at their swanky hotel in downtown Brooklyn. (yes, such a thing exists. LO They're really pleasant people. Good mid-western stock. And they invited me to their soiree they have planned for this evening. But I had to say no because of prior obligations for the evening.
And yes, my mom did get her cheese cake.
Oh, and HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY FELLAS | |
