Don't be in a hurry on Hwy 101. The scenery is beautiful, and there are hundreds of places to stop that have interesting tourist traps. The beaches are spectacular, but the water is colder than the Atlantic coast, as you have found out. Sorry about the loss of your wheelcover; they are hard to find. Take care Noah. Looking forward to your next stop.

I used to surf the west coast. The water is colder in Nor Cal and on up and wet suit is nice to have. Santa Cruz we used to surf without wet suits when younger but it can get cold and when I go there now I see surfers wearing wet suits. I do not surf anymore and haven't for years. The farther you go down south in Cal the warmer the water gets. We used to surf Moro Bay without wet suits but now but now I see the kids wearing wet suits. I have surfed the rest of California from the Ventura area beaches all the way down to San Diego. I have also been to the LA area beaches; Huntington, Rincon, Redondo, Hermosa, Torrance and Newport. Those we did not wear wet suits and I do not know if they do now or not. I always try to avoid the LA area and do noyt go there unless I have to.
