Happy 50th Anniversary. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I read that February 12 is the 50th anniversary of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Marianne Faithfull getting busted for DRUGS! I would have never guessed the founders of Classic Rock' greatest legend The Rolling Stones had anything to do with illegal DRUG usage. So I decided to scurry about and dredge up as many memory refreshing tidbits as I could find to post in here. Just hours before the raid on Redlands on February 12, 1967, Keith is pictured by Michael Cooper larking around outside his West Wittering cottage. En route to Chichester Magistrates Court on May 10, Mick and Keith appear vaguely unconcerned with what lay ahead for them. Leaving Chichester, England court, May 10, 1967 after electing to be tied by jury on DRUG possession charges. Mick and Keith leave Chichester Magistrates Court after pleading not guilty to charges emanating from the Redlands’ raid, May 10. Judge Leslie Kenneth Allen Block, Chairman of the bench at Chichester Court. Stern, intransigent and unforgiving, Block clearly reveled in the opportunity to put Mick and Keith behind bars. Found guilty and handcuffed to a warder, Mick is driven from Chichester Court to Lewes Prison to be held until sentencing was decided, June 27, 1967. The jailing of Mick and Keith brought an extraordinary amount of support from their peers. In an act of solidarity, The Who rush-released a single containing two Jagger/Richards songs: ‘The Last Time’ and ‘Under My Thumb’. A few hours after Mick’s prison sentence was reduced to a conditional discharge, he was flown from Battersea Airport to Spain’s Hall in Essex to appear on a World In Action TV special. With him are Marianne Faithfull and Granada researcher John (now Lord) Birt. Good day.................... |

Quite the blog today, Bret; sex and drugs and roll n roll (warren Zevon) Also another huge Rolling Stones fan.. Just the other day, some girl at grocery store parking lot says: "You look a lot like Keith Richards," ... while I am thinking to myself, "Keith Richards looks like death-warmed-over!"
