DAMMMM BIG BUG !!!!

My day has just been a case of run from one mess on to the next picking up the pieces and sorting things out. At least JD has not tried to kill himself today. I Had to go into town where Martin and I put up the new bug lights I bought for my new apartment complex to try and draw the moths away from the entrances at night so not as many of them get inside. While there I noticed this BIG BUG crawling up the side of the building and took a picture of it. No I didn't kill it. I think it is a praying mantis but not certain if they are native to Iowa or not. At any rate if it kills other bugs it is welcome to stick around. Wednesday's used to be my "day off" but today stretched into a 14 hour work day with banking, shopping, cooking cleaning and I just tossed a load of good shirts in the washer. I did take a few minutes to do some rummaging at Goodwill where I found an interesting vase to repaint next winter when I have more time for artsie things.

I have several blog topics at hand but not had any free time to develop them or acquire pictures to go with. So you are just stuck with my BIG BUG discovery of the day and my whining about being over worked and under rewarded.

That is probably 6" on each slat of the siding to give you an idea just how BIG that critter is.

I should have grabbed it and given it a starring roll in a cheap SiFi video

I could have put it into a box and mailed it to BiBBzie to scare the shit outta her.

Nice looking friendly bug you found. Best to leave him alone; I think he might eat mosquitoes and other smaller bugs. That could be a praying mantis, like you said.

I have it identified properly now as a praying mantis and it can eat all the dang bugs it wants to around here. I left it alone.

At first, I thought from the title that this post might be about whatever on this site is not refreshing views. I can't believe that not one person has viewed my profile in 2 weeks.

I think that is a preying mantis.
it is 1033 and I just viewed your profile. You need to stop by the LOBBY and chat with us in the evening to relax

yes it is. Today just seemed to go on and on with more things that needed my attention. Tomorrow our maid will be here to help me catch up on the home front too.

I can't tell for sure, but it looks like a praying mantis. If it is, that's good. A mantis will feed on aphids, so any plants you have will benefit. Of course, the female also feeds on the male after sex, so keep your fingers crossed that this is a female so it will be around for a while.

It is difficult to keep breeding stock of them!

bugs are a good thing to have around. as long as they are outside. I am glad you didn't kill it.
I don't kill indiscriminately. Only those bugs and critters that make a pest of themselves or endanger my wellbeing.

it is a big bug as big as it is here in Texas
I guess we won't be importing any Texan breeding stock then.
