NPR Radio Interview Marine Corps General Reinwald was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military installation. This is a portion of a National Public Radio (NPR) interview between a female broadcaster and US Marine Corps General. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Reinwald, what things are you going to teach these when they visit your base? GENERAL REINWALD: We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it? GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching ? GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping them to become violent killers. GENERAL REINWALD: Well, you're equipped to be a , but you're not one, are you? The radio went silent and the interview ended. |

Only the US military could get away with such flagrant use of abusive language against a civilian reporter trying to do her job, and get a straight answer on a very important issue.

I would say the reporter allowed her personal opinions to interfere with the reason she was there.

Many reporters have forgotten the reason and purpose of their jobs ie: reporting the facts. They allow personal opinions to interfere with the fact finding and what offends me the most is they try to sway my thoughts to align to their reasoning.

A well rounded education from both sides of the fence would probably serve them best as they mature into adults.

If indeed such interview took place, then this you just posted wouldn't surprise me one bit! It's the arrogance of the military personnel which has bothered me most of my life. ALTHOUGH, I do know some incredible nice and delightful military people, some now retired and some still in active duty........... i.e. one of my nephews who is now in Afghanistan

Well if gong to a Marine for training, what would one expect. The job of a Marine DI is to train people from getting themselves killed. I think that gun safety at an early age is actually a good thing and who would be a better instructor than a Marine. At least a young person can be taught at an early age that if a mistake happens and someone dies that it can not be done over again, it's too late, someone is dead!. My dad bought me my first .22 single shot bolt action rifle when I was young and taught me how to use it. Buy the time I was ready to take the hunter's safety course to get a hunting license when I was 16 I already knew as much as the instructors did. Gun safety is important for someone handling a firearm. It seems to be common now to read in the news a child accidentally shot and killed someone because of carelessness.
