Sounds like my grandpa. Both my dads parents were born & grew up in Poland before moving to the states. Gramps never spoke any English, but Grandma learned English from watching cartoons on tv. But, when she got pissed, it was mostly Polish with SOME english tossed in.
Grandpa only owned one car in his lifetime. Couldn't tell you what kind it was, but he too, would pull on the steering wheel when breaking. He pulled the steering wheel off at one point & totaled the car. He never got another. Those damned Polocks, I tell ya.....

That happened to me when I was first leaning to drive. No one had taught me what the brake pedal was for. I pulled up next to the house to park, pushed in on the clutch, and pulled back on the steering wheel. The '41 Ford kept rolling and took out the clothes line.
