My grandma once told me "Honey,if you have animals you're gonna have heartbreak" How true that statement is.Over the years I have lost some great pets,Dogs,cats,and a couple of horses.Many of you know that about a month ago I lost my littel Tinker she was a purebred miniature dauschund.I had her since she was weaned,she was the daughter of my old weiner dog that I got when my first love Rick died and left him to me.Tinker was about thirteen and had developed a cancer as well as kidney stones.In April I adopted Lucy,a miniature dauschund\chihuahua cross,(I swear it was short for lucifer and not lucille)She was such a sweet hearted girl with a wild streak of orneriness and that who me look when she was doing something she should'nt.Yesterday morning I let Lucy out for the morning pee,she came back in for her breakfast and morning lovin,after that she wanted back out.That was the last time I saw her.I have searched everwhere and put out calls to all the neighbors.I have a feeling all the calls and searching are a futile venture.I believe that either the damn coyotes or the resident bobcat killed and took her.It breaks my heart to think of that cruel ending for a girl thats biggest pain in life ws an occasional swat with the flyswatter.Her not knowing what was happening and me not being there to help her.I had the windows open,so whatever got her did it by surprise and in a way that whe could'nt make a sound or I would have heard.There will now be no mercy on any carnivorous animal that crosses my place,if I see so much as a squirrel with big teeth I'll shoot its ass off.I spent most of last nite getting up and down checking to see if she was outside waiting for me.I just pray that it was fast and painless and not a game for those animals. Heartbroke and sick. Ricky

My hart goes out to all who have lost a loved pet.I lost my dog of 10 years about a mounth ago to cancer.It was hart breaking to loose him,but Im so thankful for the time I had him in my life.Its still very hard,I find myself looking for him and expecting him to come walking into what ever room I happen to be in.Its very true, that its better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. I loved my boy very much and look forward to the next dog I can get to know and share my life with.It is hard to part with them but it is so well worth it,considering the joy and love they bring while they are wuith us.

Hey to you all, Thanks so much,I know that pets eventually lead to heartache,but the joy and companionship thay bring while they own us is worth more than the heartache.I'm looking already to find me a new little buddy to boss me around and make the nites in the chair a bit more comfy. I Completely Feel & Understand the no closure thing. I'm sorry 4 your loss. about 3 months back, I had to have my sweet Spoiled-Rottenweiler Miss Kitty put down due to bone cancer. I did get to say my goodbyes to her & arranged 4 a private cremation. after a month & 1/2-- I quit seeing shadows/glimpses of her around the house.... I called the vet's to find out when her ashes/remains/essence would come home where she belongs. Only to find out that somewhere,somehow have been LOST. bman

Hey Rickey I am so sorry to here about your loss! I like what Mark said about "being loved by a animal and then having to loses that animal".

Just about two years ago this weekend I loss my baby a little Shettland Sheppard "Spicey" and it just wiped me out! I was dealing with the trama, shock and lonelyness and was such a mess that I had to take in another sheppard very soon!

I adopted her cousin and her baby as I needed to stay busy, this all helped but I still miss here every day as we worked togehter as a team and the University and hospital with the kids!

I am not sure why we are put through the pain of the loss, but I think it shows that our love was very strong and that we miss our little friend "kids" so much!

I know this dose not help but I too went through many stages of pain and angery and was just one of them! I could have attacked the person that hit my Sheppard as they were on thier cell phone and not watching, but I am not sure this wold have helped anything and I think Spicey would have want me to spend the last moment on earth together as I held her in my arms!

Sorry that You are going through this please feel free to write if you like to talk! Martin!

Ricky, you know how much I love animals & especially dogs. I know your heart aches & a great void is there. I doubt it being more than little consolation, but remember that nature provides wild animals the instinct to make a swift & instant kill of their prey. I prefer to think that most don't have time to feel any pain.
You know you & Lucy are in our thoughts & prayers.

Hey Ricky;

I had a "Snoopy" Beagle when I was a boy. I called him Laddie. He disappeared one day and I went searching all over the back woods and up and down the road. 6 months later, my neighbor said his Nephew "found" him wandering along the road and "brought" him back to us. We always felt the Nephew had taken him and got discouraged with his (lack of) hunting skills. He only hunted for and with me. A couple of years later, we had to give him away when we moved to the big city. I still miss that boy.

Hugs;

T

I know the feeling when a pet doesn't return. I lost a dog and for months I'd keep seeing her in the corner of my eye. But everytime I looked around there was nothing there. It takes time, and the only thing you know is that you don't know.

Ricky, anytime I see someone who loses their pet, my heart just sinks breaks !!! I am so sorry for your loss !!!

I know how I get when one of my little ones die, it takes everything out of me, and I feel so empty for such a long time. Yet, as far as me not having any animals, that just won't happen, since I cherish the time I have with each and every one of them. I believe that ones my time is up on this earth, I will be reunited with each and every one of them, where I will spend eternity loving them even more !!!

Rick don't loose hope yet. Call your local police and tell them if someone finds your dog to call you. Call the local animal shelter, and animal hospitals in your area. You will be surprised how many animals are picked up at them but are never claimed. I'll pray for a save return.

So sorry to hear this, the not knowing for sure, will be hard. Hope she was not taken but got out somehow and will be found. I also have had dogs in the same situation with Mtn. lions, fox, bears & coyote's.

I to hope if she got caught by one it was fast also! Later Darold

Darold, our dogs are'nt penned,so they could have nabbed her while she was headed up the drive to the folks or while she was in the field doing her morning business.I think the next dog will wear a bell,that frightens the wild ones and gives the dogs a better chance. Huggs Ricky

Ricky, Having been a pet lover and caretaker for practically all my life, I very, very much sympathize with you at this time and pray that your fears have been in vain. I used to have a dog like yours, but he had long hair ... named Tut. My Dalmatian learned how to open the gate to the back yard on her own ... neighbors caught her and put her back but left tiny Tut last seen sitting on my front porch. Ads, calls, signs posted, long drives and long walks .. and finally I gave up. I tell myself that someone found him and chose not call me because, after all, he was SO CUTE! As Warwood stated, it is the not knowing that hurts so much. Take care of your good and kind self!!!

Actually Ricky, just the thought of Otis not being by my side makes my stomach turn. I am VERY sorry for your loss my friend. Like Mark, I would hope that you would consider offering your home to another pet that needs a home when the time feels right.

I have heard coyote packs behind my house. So I worry about the same thing happening to Otis.

If you can remember Ricky, I lost a cat (Shanda) last autumn to a Siberian Husky that was roaming the neighbourhood without its owner's supervision. It snatched Shanda right off my front window sill. I'll NEVER forget the look in her eyes. She too had never known neither fear nor pain.

Everyone here seems focused on her being 'gone'...I'm holding on to the hope that she's just 'missing' for a little bit.

I understand how you feel buddy re: the not knowing aspect. I get that way too when Spook takes off for a month or two at a time.

Good luck

Hi Ricky, Im really sorry about what happened to Lucy. I think that people who have never loved and been loved by an animal have no idea what its like to lose one. And yeh, I do mean the word "love" because I have no doubt at all that animals are capable of that. A very real and pure kind of love.
But I hope you will be able to let go of the anger at whatever wild animal it might have been that took Lucy. Coyotoy or bobcat or whatever...they are not capable of intentional evil, they just do what nature and instinct tell them to do.

Im sorry that probly doesnt help you with what youre feeling. I do believe that anyone who has given an animal a safe and loving life has done God's work. And hard as it is to lose a friend like that, I hope you will think taking in another pet. There are so many who have no home and no love.
And they need it just as much as people do.

bigricky63 replies on 8/11/2008 5:42 pm:
Mark, I realize that the wild critters are only doing what comes natural,but they better go find another hunting ground,I will not let any of them survive if they come thru and I can get off a shot.I've been kind of lax this spring and summer and they have decided that it is ok to come in this close.Usually I shoot some every year and they learn to avoid the farm area.Guess its time to put school back in session.There is a local daschund rescue that will most likely be the source of a new pet.
